Hi Few people,

Currently I am working on my project which is modelling of flow patterns in membrane bio-reactor, simply I've drawn a cuboid tank and there are 4 membranes with a stirrer ( rotating mixer) placed inside ,on the base. and I've imported it successfully into the Gambit 3.2.16. the problem is within the geometry decomposition (operation or geometry command button) so I can not build the solid faces however I chose all the edges and faces successfully but it gave me an error saying that can't connect the edges in the wireframe. and If i run the meshing directly it doesn't do the mesh for the whole body but for the base and 1 face only out of the four boundary faces and so can't be imported after in fluent.

Any Ideas or Help Please?!!!!

I'd be very thankful if u can support any dummy tutorials for mixing tank ( multiphase)

Regarding your problem, did you get your flow domain, or do you still have the solid domain?

Many thanks for your kind reply, and referring to it kindly check the attachment files. I've posted all the necessary files you may need. you'll find there different views for the 3d CAD drawing that clarify the geometry,

Actually the meshing I've done is working properly now so I can import it successfully without any problems in Fluent software, however as you will see in the meshing picture that neither all the inner faces nor the base of the geometry are meshed though they are involved in the picked faces and edges!!! that is the main problem am facing at the moment. Actually I'm thinking of simplifying the geometry however i wouldn't do that until I receive your reply.

I'm not well experienced with Gambit and Fluent since it is my first time to use them, so I'd like to ask you few questions

1- Is it normal ,when I import a Geometry like this, to find 403 edges and 191 Faces?!
2- If yes, how can I group faces and label them as a ' wall 1' for example to make it easy to use them after during meshing?
3- Importing CAD files in Gambit accepts IGES and STEP, in your opinion which is better to import and why?!

1- you have an option with stand alone edge or whatever
2- As you export your mesh, Gambit will automatically groups all outer faces without defined BC as wall >> so don t need to define them as wall
3-definitively STEP

Ok that's fine I'll try this concerning number 1, however I need to ask you one more question. when I am specifying the boundary conditions after meshing. what shall I define the stirrer (mixer or impeller) as? should I define it as fan? axis? or what? as well as the motor body in the bottom of the tank?

and also the membranes what shall i define them as? inlet vent? mass flow inlet?
