Hi,
I am trying to simulate a cyclonic separator using fluent. There is one inlet and two outlets. At inlet water-air mixture is entering the system. Let me give some name to two outlets, namely top outlet and bottom outlet. Top outlet is exposed to atmoshphere where as bottom outlet is having pressure of 30 psia. Currently i am using mixture model without slip velocity and results are like large amount of air is gonig through bottom outlet, where as test shows that large amount of air should go from top outlet. It means CFD is not able to capture the separation of air from water inside separator. Is there any problem my CFD set up in fluent? |

My suggestion is that you should recognize the regime of multiphase flow of the water-air mixture in the cyclone. If it is droplet flow, and the particulate loading is low, say, the volume fraction of the water droplets below 10~12%, then you may use the discrete phase model.
