Hello all. New user and CFD newbie here. I am creating a mesh/grid to model flow through an orifice plate (as seen in the picture below). I believe I have set up everything correctly in Gambit but when I try to open it I get the following message in the command window:

> Reading "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\ProjectMesh.msh"...
69671 nodes.
160 mixed outflow faces, zone 3.
450 mixed axis faces, zone 4.
160 mixed velocity-inlet faces, zone 5.
570 mixed wall faces, zone 6.
137330 mixed interior faces, zone 8.
69000 quadrilateral cells, zone 2.

Error: Build_Grid: grid error.
Clearing partially read grid.

I believe this is indicating that there is a node that has no associated face at the point mentioned. However, what is strange is the point listed is one of the vertices that define my grid and there should be no node with that position as its center. The grid (and the problematic point) is shown below. Any ideas?

NOTE: Problem Solved!!!

However, I will leave this thread here in case some one else ever runs into something similar.

The problem had to do with how I defined my mesh. In Gambit, I was using only Quad or square grid sections. Redrawing the grid with quad and triangular sections has appeared to fix the problem. It now reads and opens in Fluent.

hi,

I have the same problem, what do you mean by "redrawing the grid" do you mean remesh in Gambit with a different scheme (volume, faces or both)? If you mean in Fluent which options do you choose (sorry I am new to fluent)?

Regards,
Tom
