Hey all,
I am trying to post processing non-conformal meshes (tgrid hex-core) in paraview after being run in fluent, but paraview cannot do it. Nor can ensight. Is there a special trick to exporting from fluent/importing with these two softwares to see non-conformal meshes? Cheers, |

I can't say about paraview, but EnSight fully supports all grid types from Fluent. The most robust way to get data from Fluent to EnSight, you can export from within Fluent to the "EnSight Case Gold" format. File -- > Export --> EnSight Case Gold Format. There should not be any trick needed to read the data into EnSight from there. Which version of EnSight are you using?

I think the problem is that the mesh needs to be exported in Fluent 6.3.35.
In any case my real issue is getting it into paraview. Ensight was just the format I was using to do that. |

Hi
I want to calculate the time average wall shear stress (TAWSS). I used fluent, but i do not know how to do this, can it be done on ENSIGHT? The time average wall shear stress equation: (WSS at time point 0.1+ WSS at time point 0.2+......WSS at time point 1.0) /10 I divide by 10 as I take the value of wall shear stress randomly at 10 time points which is at 0.1 s, 0.2 s, 0.3 s, 0.4 s, 0.5 s, 0.6 s, 0.7 s, 0.8s ,0.9 s and 1.0 s Thank you so much if someone can help me on this. Regards, Naimah |

Naimah,
There is actually a PreDefined function in the Calculator of EnSight which does that automatically for you already called a TEMPORAL MEAN called "TempMean()". To use it simply: a. Select the part(s) over which you want to compute this quantity (probably the wall parts in your case). b. Open up the calculator, and select on the "TempMean" predefined function. You simply specify which variable you want to take the temporal mean of, along with the time step range (t1 to t2) that you want to take the mean over. In your case, I would anticipate that the calculator function would end up looking like : TempMean(plist,WSS,0,9) (this would calculate the temporal mean of the variable called 'WSS' from timetep 0 to timestep 9.) Let me know if I can be any any further assistance. -Kevin (kevin@ceisoftware.com) |

There are two ways to get data from CFx into EnSight. Within the CFx Run GUI, you can choose "Tools -- > Export". You set the export format to EnSight Case Gold format, and write out the necessary variables and domains to EnSight format. You can read them straight into EnSight. If you need to scale the model, you can do so by selecting the Edit Model Parts, and scaling the geometry there (if you need to). BTW: EnSight only cares about units consistency, not what the value is.
The other method is to natively read in the CFx .res file into EnSight. From the File Open browser, select the CFx .res file, make sure the format is set to "CFx", and Load the model. You can follow the same steps to scale the model if you need to. Let me know if I can be of more assistance. Kevin (kevin@ceisoftware.com) |
