Hi,

I need to analyze the flow over a model aircraft. Which CAD package would be better for this - CATIA or UGNX? I also want to know if I should model the aircraft as a solid body for the analysis or could i model it as an assembly(inclusing all components) and still perform the analysis?

CATIA and UGNX are available.I used UGNX, but CATIA's model could be imported into gambit directly. So I recommend you use CATIA. it depends on your data through the simulation. Sometimes you may simplify your model such as a body. by the way, zone for calculation is a box that subtract the aircraft model.

Thanks for your reply. Do you think GAMBIT s good enough a mesh tool for me to mesh my aircraft?

Thanks!

you can see the GAMBIT Tutorial Guide that have a case called "AIRPLANE GEOMETRY". I think this is usefull to you. but if you want to calculate the viscous fluid, you may use the Tgrid tools, and it can generate prism mesh to satisfy boundary requirement.

Good luck, xinboy!

Hi,

I am getting an error while meshing in GAMBIT (skewness). Would it be possible for you to send me that GAMBIT tutorial on 'Airplane Geometry'?

Thanks!

Thanks a lot!
