Default Fluent post-processing speed up

Hi,

I have to manage quite big Fluent models (~12 Million Cells), and I find the post-processing extremely slow.

Could you please suggest me the minimum HW requirements (n° of processors, RAM) to make the post-processing time acceptable, and any trick that would help to speed up this activity?

Thank you very much in advance.

Regards,

Ale

In generally parallel postprocessing does not always speed up the process. Decomposition is required which takes lots of time. It is quite normal that large models take some time to process. In general you hould consider using journal-scripting for that.

Is it the graphics performance you are not satisfied with or the time for calculation alpha-numeric values or even both?

In case 1: Sometimes OpenGL acceleration helps. (/display/set/rendering-optins/driver; switch off all fluent graphic windows before)

Unfortunately it is only offered for 32-bit Linux systems not for 64 and the latest implementation in Fluent 12 beta seems not to accelerate at all.

In case 1 and 2: I observed acceleration in parallel mode. Not always but most of the time.

For 12 million cells including only turbulence (no species or radiation) you should spend at least 12 GB RAM in seriell mode and up to 16GB or even more in parallel.

Watch your system with "free" or "vmstat" whether it is swapping. If it does all the processes are extremly deaccelerated (factors of 10 are quite normal)
