Default Viscous model choice

Hi!

I'm studying the aerodynamics of an airship. I'm simulating a 2D envelope shape (a streamline body) and I don't get correct results. I'm using a K-epsilon viscous model (standard model) but I've saw that in many tutorials the spallart-almaras model is chosen to simulate the aerodynamics of an airfoil.

Which model fits better my simulation, K-epsilon or spallart? Which are the main differences between them?

Thanks!

Luis

Hi there,

You would be best to read section 12 of the User Guide. This will tell you the differences between the models, and give you an outline of what cases they will work best for.

It is my understanding that the Spalart-Almaras model is the best for airfoils at low angles of attack and I would reccommend that you use this for your problem. Read the manual so that you know why though. Also the manual will give you a better idea about what type of mesh you need at the wall, and the y+ values you should be using.

Regards,

Scott

Thank you Scott!

I think that I will use the Spallart model.
