Default Combustion Instability in Gas Turbine Combustors

Hi, Mates,

In terms of combustion instability resulting from the coupling of heat release with pressure oscillation, how to define the inlet and outlet boundary conditions? To my knowledge, the compressible effect should be taken into consideration, is it?

Any one could show me some experimental data regarding, in particular, the case of liquid fuel?

thx.

Hello,

You are right. Compressibility effects need to be taken into account to study combustion instability. You can find vast literature on the topic of combustion instability in AIAA papers, Journal of propulsion and power etc. The "Theoretical and Numerical Combustion" by Poinsot and Veynante has an excellent chapter on Combustion instability.

Thanks a lot, NRD. But, LES is adopted by nearly all the cases with respect to C.I. discussed in that book mentioned by you. As far as URANS is concerned, defining suitable boundary condtions is a headache for me, considering both the compressibility effects and wave motion at the inlet and outlet.

Any suggestion about that?
