Anybody please. I am using fluent for analysis of car external aerodynamics. However fluent gives skin friction drag on the graphics. whether this drag is total drag ( pressure+skin friction ) or skin friction only.since car comes in the catagory of bluff bodies its major component should be pressure drag.if the read drag is only skin friction drag , how to find pressure drag & total drag. Also this application has unattached flow in the rear(separation) , do we apply boundary layer as in case of attached flows. help required. thanks.

In Fluent go to Report -> Force Report -> select the car geometry and click on print.
Fluent will give u the total force as well as the breakdown to viscous and pressure forces. and yes, growing a boundary layer on the car surfaces and resolving the flow to the surface (rather than using wall functions) would be the way to go. By the way i find k-w sst rather usefull for external aerodynamics of bluff bodies. |
