Does anyone know whether Angelo Sozzi completed the translation of the Fluent-Scheme manual of Mirko Javurek.

I've been waiting for 2 years...I tried to contact Angelo but I always told me to wait... Luca

Have you managed to make progress in the past two years on using Scheme with Fluent? The manual of Mirko Javurek seems to be rather short in any case, so I doubt whether it is a comprehensive report on the subject. For a start I would like to program some form of optimization routine where a simulation is started based on some initial input, results from the solution is analysed to calculate new input values, these values are then used as input and a new solution is obtained. The process repeats until the desired results are obtained. And all this happens while I am on holiday and when I return I have an optimized solution! At the moment it is difficult to see how data from the solver (like forces on a surface) can be axtracted and the data used in further SCHEME commands to calculate values etc. |

Dear Angelo, thanks to Mirko's guide and suggestions I have already being doing what you want to do for a while...I've developed several solvers inside fluent to manage different kinf of simulation which command fluent inside an iterative scheme loop. For example I set fluent inside a matrix free solution for example... The only thing is: several people contacted you during the last 2 years and you told everybody to wait few days...Maybe it's better to say tou'll never send anything from the start! I suggest people willing to learn a little of scheme to visit the fluentusers site and start reading all the examples available to learn how to use scheme inside fluent...this is the only way. Good luck everybody. Luca

Hi Luca, It sounds like you have been able to do some very impressive things with scheme. Do you think it would be possible to make Fluent perform overset (chimera) grid calculations using scheme? Regards, John

No, this does not depend on scheme but on the solver itself...the scheme language can be used as an interface for the solver, you can create your own solver with fluent inside the loop. I'm sorry but I cannot help you. but if you search inside fluent'src directory you can find a filename starting with chimera...maybe there are some hidden functions... Luca

A Chimera-type calculation might be possible using the UDF interface. I say "might be" because I have not tried it, but it seems like such a thing should work. It is one of those things that I would try if I had time.

i think it is not possible to do chimera type calculations with Fluent. The reason is, if it were possible fluent people would have marketed it as one of the add on 'features'. It is a big thing for them to have. If they do not provide it, they know it is not possible. As for that chimera file in source, i feel it is because fluent developers are working on adding this feature behind the curtains. But it is not ready now.

Well, it is not the same as having chimera grids...with this method you have overlapping cell-domains but of course computational costs are heavily raised...Luca
