Default running gambit using xwin - 32

Hi, I want to run gambit using xwin 32 (instead of xceed, the license for which is not currently available with my univ). However, after installing both the products successfully, gambit still searches for xceed and there is no way I can direct it to use xwin as x-server. I could correct the problem with the help of my system administrator with an older version of gambit (2.2.16)but not with newer version (2.3.16). Can you please help me out?
