Default Couple of questions in Fluent

Hi,

I want to get the residence time of the fluid inside my model. I'm modeling a fluid flow, and there's no particle injection or any such thing.

However, whenever I go to the Disply- particle tracking- residence time panel, the display and write option are always inactive. How do I activate these buttons? I want to plot the residence in specific areas/ zones in my model.

My second question is about plotting the velocity vectors..... is there any way we can plot the velocity vectors in the XZ, YZ planes such that 0<=Z<=some value.

I mean I want to plot the velocity vectors in the specific plane between 0 and some value. How can I do this?

I was using the surface monitors to monitor the convergence of the variables. For this I drew a rake in the flow field of some dimensions. But the velocity monitor plot for this rake always shows zero and stays there. Is there something wrong in the way I plotted the rake?

Thanks, Vidya

Hi,

1) you can not use Disply- particle tracking- residence time panel to get residence time as it is activated only when you model particle tracking. you can find out residence time by looking at velocity contours

and rephrase your other ques, i'll possibly give the answers as i couldn't understand the ques

First you need to make a plane where you want to plot your vectors (surface -> plane...). Next, display -> vectors..., choose your plane where the vectors are going to be plotted, choose vector options and select which components of the vector that are going to be plotted, then unhach the auto range option, make sure "clip-to-range" is hatced, type min and max values.

You have to provide more information on the third question.

I meant that I want to monitor the variables (mainly, presure and velocity) along my flow field. So I ceated a rake that spans the flow field and want to plot the variables on it and watch the trend as the computation proceeds. But this always shows a zero value. What could be wrong?

Thanks.

Hi,

Can you explain how I can determine the residence time from the velocity contour plots?

Thanks.
