Hi!

I want to use conformal grid adaption. How to activate this option??

It is is only available for 2D or axisymmetric geometries. I have an axisymmetric geometry, but in the Grid Adaption Controls Panel, the Conformal option is NOT available...

Any Idea how to get there?

Ralf

Hi Ralf,

For what I came across in Fluent 6.0, the conformal grid adaption works only for tet/tri grid. This is because the algorithm that connects the "finer produced elements" to the original non-adapted elements is supported. For quad/hex elements, there is a "hanging node" algorithm that produces cuts in the original elements while assigning new "vertices" hanged on the original elements' edges. You may want to refer to the manual for more info. I read also that the hanging node adaption is expensive in terms of memory resources.

Cheers, Amr

Hi,

thanks for your reply! I am using 2D axissymmetrical msh build from tri elements. The close wall region is meshed WITHOUT the bondary layer fuction, it is all modelled with tri elements.

And you are right, I want to avoid hanging notes because first: of the memory, and second: someone said, that with hanging notes, the passing of values between two cells is more difficult, especially for tri elements...

Any further hints?

Ralf

Well, as far as I know (from the Fluent guide), conformal grid adaption is supported in the 2D axisymmetric domains. For its activation, there supposed to be an option in the Adaption > Controls sub-menu. Does this ring a bell to you?

thats what I am wondering!

I can NOT activate this option in the Adaption > Controls sub-menu. It is ther, but I can not manipulate its setting. It is fixed on "hanging notes"....

Thats my problem!!! Maybe there are other constrains for the conformal option, Fluent manual does not tell...

As for now, unfortunately, I have no clue for that. Just make sure that the Fluent version you're using supports the conformal adaption. Hope we find answers from other expert people !
