locate separation point

I tried to locate the point of separation on a sphere using the derivatives in XY plots.The criteria being du/dy(partial derivative of velocity along x-axis w.r.t y), I am not sure if the derivative values given by FLUENT is total derivative or partial derivative. Is there any other method of locating point of separation using any other data (like static pressure curve,shear stress along the wall....)?
