What exactly is a virtual volume as opposed to a real volume. I've created more concentrated meshes within my volume and want the faces of the inner volumes to act only as boundaries for the mesh, not as boundaries of flow. Is this the application of virtual volumes?

A real volume can be desrcibed by a mathematical function within a tolerance of 1e-6. Boolean operations will work on real gemoetry, but the possible shapes of of your volume are limited. Virtual gemeometry (volumes, faces, lines) does not have this limitation, but you should be aware that most of gamibts boolean operations do not work with virtual geometry. Changing real geometry into virtual is usually done short before meshing to simplify the geometry which often makes meshing easier.
