How to construct complex 3D geometry using GAMBIT?

I need to run a thermal analysis for a complex 3D geometry, e.g. human liver. With my experience on GAMBIT, I have no idea how to construct such a complex 3D geometry, since it can not be devided into regular components. Anyone has the experience to build a totally irregular 3D geometry? Is Tgrid able to do the job? Or shall I resort to FEM software, like ABAQUS, since the simulation focus on heat conduction, no flow involved. Any ideas and advices will be greatly appreciated!!!

you can use some other CAD programs to generate your geometry and them import the file (as iges or step or...) into gambit.
Another way is to place vertices at the outer surface of the body you want to model. Then connect them properly with lines, connect the lines to faces and the faces to volumes. I dont know any other way Ralf |

I prefer Pro/E. Can Gambit import the geometry created by Pro/E? Your continuous help is very much appreciated!!! |

take a look at file->import->CAD and then select Pro/E.
The other way is, to export your geometry from Pro/E as STEP or IGES, and then directly import this format into gambit. Actually I have experience only with importing acis format, and that was ok. You have to take care, that all the lines and vertices you have in your geometry are REALLY connected. If not, you can not define proper faces and volumes in gambit. Reconnecting all points and defining new faces is a hell lot of work… belief me… Hope it helps Ralf |

Hi Import step from pro-e with tolerance on in Gambit. Check whether geometry is real, or make it real. Then go for random/default size tet mesh if skew ness is very high go for T-Grid help Don't hesitate to revert / ask for details Welcome to call also, curtsy because its very interesting CFD application you are working on Thanks
