I'm looking to invest in a new computer to run Fluent using the Windows operating system. Could anyone reccomend a system spec? Please keep in mind that I don't have very deep pockets. Also, what would I need to run a 64-bit version of Fluent? A 64-bit processor, a 64-bit version of Windows XP, and a 64-bit version of Fluent for Windows? Is 64 bit worth it?

You can get a dual opteron (64 bit) processor (AMD) machine with around 2-4 GB Ram for around $2000-2500. You would be better off using RHEL 4 (linux), compared to XP in my opinion. You should see some speed up using 64 bit version. Around 1.3-1.5 maybe. Anindya

There is no 64-bit version of Fluent for Windows yet. So if you want to use this version you must use Linux (Fedora Core 4 works just fine).

The main advantages:

- 20-35% speed-up compared to 32-bit version on same case and hardware of course

- 4GB of memory adressable space by a single process, compared to 2GB for 32-bit version (don't neglect this, you might need it some day!)

As for the hardware, I already posted several times my own configuration, just give it a search.

64-bit Windows Fluent won't be available until v6.3 is released, which is said to be summer 2006.
