While saving a fluent cas and dat file, mu linux machine just froze. Could you please let me know what I can do to save the data file properly. If I reboot the machine, then the partially saved dat file gets corrupt. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks a lot. Anindya |

Hmm, if the Magic SysRQ key combo is built in the kernel you can try the following combos in the order mentioned:
1. Alt-SysRq-R (keyboard in raw mode) 2. Alt-SysRq-S (save unsaved data to disk) 3. Alt-SysRq-E (send termination signal) 4. Alt-SysRq-I (send kill signal) 5. Alt-SysRq-U (remount all mounted file systems) 6. Alt-SysRq-B (reboots the system) Give a gap of 2 seconds between any two combos. This is not necessary, but is safer. There is NO guarantee that this will save your dat file for you. But this will at least ensure that all data in memory is synced to the disk. PS: It is very very rare that a GNU/Linux workstation should hang. Please inspect your hardware carefully. Do a memory 'burn in' test, see if your cpu/graphics card fans are working etc. etc. |
