hi akash,

can u explain us little more clearly. i mean, do u need the solid domain inside? normally what the CFD people will do if there no analysis is going to do on the solid is "places a void in place of the solid". and regarding rotation, just simply give the walls as the rotating walls.

Hello Manohar,

Thanks for your response. I have an enclosure with some heat sources and a spindle motor on which a disk is mounted. The disc spins with a certain angular velocity. As the spinning disk will move the air around it and hence cause a difference in the heat transfer effectiveness, I would need to simulate a spinning disc inside the enclosure too. In IcePak, can I just create a wall, calculate the linear velocity from the angular velocity and then specify that value as components in the X, Y and Z directions? Any suggestions will be really appreciated.

Regards, Akash

hi akash,

i think for ur case if the disk is fully solid (means, there is no holes or vanes in the disk) u can just define the wall as rotating. that is sufficient. i dont know exactly but as of my knowledge we can't rotate the solid domain (almost i tried for one month but i didn't get for my case). for anything else i am ready to help u.

I got in touch with IcePak tehc support. They say that the new version of IcePak--4.2 has the capability to support a spinning disc. Thanks so much for all your assistance Manohar.
