Default Patch-Different values to different zones

Hi I am trying to solve fluid flow through a porous medium. For this i have got two different zones ( two different porous medium zones with different properties). I need to patch different values of discreet particle phases to the two zones. I have tried to use initialise->patch and patch one value to one particular zone. But after doing this i find that the value has been patched to the other zone also. I tried to use region->mark and again i get the same value in the whole domain.

Is there any way that i can give different initial values to the two zones? I would really appreciate some advise on this.

Thanks in advance.
