entry, dump losses

For a simple case like flow through sudden contraction and expansion tube flow, I'm intrested to know wether the solver is capable of capturing sudden contraction and expnasion losses while solving equations. Which term calculates this. Very much eager to know the answer for this question. Please let me know. I heard someone saying entry loss, dump loss cannot be captured in CFD and one should introduce them into the models. Is it true. It surprises when it solves comple N-S Energy equation.
