Hi all,

Just getting started on natural gas combustion in a furnace. Can anyone tell me if I can simulate the natural gas combustion with the methane/air database in fluent, thereby effectively simulating methane/air but with acceptable result for natural gas conbustion?

I think I might be able to do this as the natural gas contains 94% methane??? But not sure if this is appropriate for CFD simulation?

If I can do this, could someone give me a reference?

Thanks

Tom

Methane combustion is good approximation to nat gas combusti0on when the methane is around 98 percent, but if u use species transport and data base mechenism, the results do not match with the experimetnatl values, at least, they din't match in my case. the easiest thing to do is to use Flamelet model for non premixed case and partially premixed for premixed cases, they are in good approximation to experimental value, though these two models fail to predict NOX very well.

so if u want even better results u have to ise EDC with some standard reaction mechanisms availbale.
