Hi Ppl,
I am currently working in Mesh generation around a solid cylinder (3D), wherein the flow characteristics over a cylinder is to be studied, I am supposed to read the mesh file developed in Gambit, into Techplot 8.0, so that further computations can be done, I happened to try all of the export options given by Gambit, but nothing turned to be gud enough to read into Techpolt. Thanks in Advance, krishna |

Hi,
I'm not sure you can export a gambit file into techplot. i know you can read data files from Fluent into techplot but i believe gambit export mainly to CFD packages. regards David |

Tecplot can only read the data and case file generated by fluent or airpak

Thanks Leung,
So if possible, can u tell me in which software shd i create my mesh so as to read it in Techplot. Thanks in Advance, krishna. |

Hi Krishna,
Unfortunately I'm not aware of any meshing software where you can export directly to techplot. What i would do is create my mesh using Gambit, run my computations using Fluent, and then export the Fluent files to Techplot. i hope this helps David PS: i know a former PhD student from RMIT who has done some CFD as well |

Hi David,
Thanks a lot for the reply, actually I want to read the mesh files into Techplot, so that I can device my own solver, using some Programming language like C,C++. The other option is I can program in Matlab, again the problem of reading grid into Matlab may pose a problem, and I am not sure which software can do the procees of Reading mesh into Matlab for further use. If u have any idea plz do share... Thanks in Advance... krishna. PS:Plz let me know the person u know in RMIT |

you r supposed to do the meshing in gambit
1. Do the meshing in gambit 2. Export the mesh in gambit 3. Open Fluent and read the mesh as case. file (*.cas) 4. If possible, generate a set of solution in fluent ( tecplot can't read case file alone) 5. save all the case and data file (*.cas and *.dat) 6. Use tecplot to import all the (*.cas and *.dat) file 7. After imported into tecplot, you will have your mesh geometry and the solution (eg, vector field), you can only turn on the mesh option without showing and contour/vectors |

Hi Krishna,
I really have no clue on how you could process further into reading your mesh into techplot through your own solver. I'm afraid i do not have the expertise. regards David I sent you an email concerning the person from RMIT |
