It depends on the kind of molecules which constitute the gas you're considering. Look for more info in a book of physical chemistry (Atkins is a good one)

You may get some helpful ideas from this book: Thermodynamics, Kinetics Theory, and Statistical Thermodynamics. It is written by F.W.Sears & G.L.Salinger
