Hi guys! I need to draw an helical coil in Gambit (vers. 2.0.4). I have been trying to do it but I had a lot of problems, as the tutorials don't have any useful command. Is there anyone who has suggestions about how to solve my problem? Thank you so much, bye, Antonio

I had similar problem when I wanted to construct helical rib structure in Gambit, but I couldnot find the way, then I had to use another software and imported the ACIS to build mesh in Gambit.

I would like to know as well, if it is possible to construct such typical geometries in Gambit.

I asked the same question about 2 years ago. There is a way to draw helical coils in Gambit, but it is very difficult and I could not grasp it.

I used a helical drawing "lisp" program in AutoCAD to draw the helical coil. I then imported it into Gambit as an ACIS file. To make a long story short, if you could find another program, such as AutoCAD to do it, you could then bring it into Gambit.

There are several ways of creating a helical coil in Gambit. Probably, the best way would be to create a journal file in parametric form that you could use again and again, for different parameters (e.g. number of coils, type of cross-section etc). Please contact your local Fluent Support Engineer who can guide you to create one or provide an existing journal.
