Default Grid adaption or Gambit meshing?

hi, i was wondering if grid adaption is suitable to refine your mesh geometry. or should one work in gambit and import into Fluent. Which is more reliable in terms of solutions and convergence? I want to increase no. of cells in my geometry upto 10 times. But, working in gambit with the mesh and importing into Fluent is time consuming. Is it worth doing this or is it reliable to use grid adaption in Fluent?

I would say, exporting the mesh to fluent and refine it there is better. In fluent you can do adaption with different ways, by volume size and even by gradient which you can't do in gambit..

Mr.Saniee Nezhad, I think you Are a student in Sharif uni. I am also using the fluent software, for my thesis. It would be so useful for both of us to be come more familiar with the projects and also beeing in contact to solve the problems and discusing the experiments. with great wishes for you.

Dear mr. heydari, i'm also happy to familiar with you, where are u studying and in which grade? i'm ready to have a discussion about your/and my problem. please give me a full detail of your problem in persian (MS Word file) and title of your project.

with the best regards mahdi saniee

Hi,

I would say, it is better to create a new grid (even though it is time consuming, unless you donot opt for accurate results) rather than refining the grid upto 10 times. Fluent can only handle reliable results upto certain level of grid refinement. This is what according to my experience.

Yes, I also would say, go to gambit and remesh with smaller size, like increase the edge nodes and put boundary layer with smaller size. Or u can do it by rescale with aspect ratio increased in fluent.

refinement within Fluent is saving time, because you are refining a mesh of a converged solution and can be done many times. To remesh in Gambit means a new case to be intialized and solved which is time consuming..This is according to my experience with complex geometry.. Good luck.

1. using wall-adaption in fluent does not increase the resolution of the geometric wall surfaces, ie discretizing a sphere's surface by say 100 cells and applying a wall adaption gives you more cells on the surface BUT the new surface cells DO NOT resemble the shape of the actual sphere. Hence, if you need to adapt at solid surfaces I would rather suggest to generat a new grid in Gambit. 2. Having generated a new grid in Gambit you can always interpolate the solution from the previous "coarse" mesh onto the new mesh within Gambit
