Dead cells created on edges when a grid file is generated in GAMBIT and imported into FLUENT4

I have created a geometry (3D) in GAMBIT and i have imported it into FLUENT4. On seeing the cells using the LIST-CELLS option in SETUP-1, i've found that there are dead cells created on all the edges. Now because of these dead cells, my results are not comming out to be correct. How should I avoid these dead cells?

Dear Isaac Manohar
1. You are using sturctured grid(Fluent 4.x), that is to say, index(I,J,K) should be consistent. So, you can not avoid dead cells if your domain is'nt topologically one block. But, it is very curious that there are dead cells on ALL the edges. It is not general case. 2. As far as my experience is concerned, dead cells on the edges(but not on the ALL edges) did not cause any problem. Your problem might not be caused by dead cells. 3. If you really want to remove dead cells, you have following two choices. - Make your whole domain as one block(topologically, four sided surface for 2D, or six sided volume for 3D). - If your domain can not be represented as one block, you can not avoid dead cells by using anyone of structured grid based codes. Then, use unstructured grid based code(Fluent 5.x is possible one because you have Fluent 4.x). Sincerely, Jinwook |
