long narrow faces

I have sometimes big problems to create long and narrow surfaces in gambit (1.1) from curved 3d-splines. Sometimes there occures an error, sometimes the created faces produce errors in later operations. Beside this, the whole model becomes very very slow. How do you handle such faces ? Jurek
