fraperon is on a distinguished road
Hi everyone, I'm currently working on simulations regarding pumping ring in mechanical seals.
More specifically, I'm using Fluent to simulate the mass flow rate pumped by the rotating shaft and compare it to some experimental results.
For my cases, I did simulate only the fluid volume, imposing a rotating wall boundary condition for the innner part of the volume, plus an inlet and outlet pressure conditions (they are the only known variable). The simulation type is steady state
My CFD results are quite accurate, since i get about 10-15% difference from the real experiments.

My question is: is it correct to impose the rotating wall velocity b.c. or is it necessary to implement something like two frames of reference? (I read about this in a paper regarding a similar topic)

Thanks in advance
