Hello,

I am working on developing a VoF multiphase model to simulate oil motion inside a bearing chamber.

A common occurrence with lubrication in bearings is a local rise in fluid temperature due to shearing within the fluid itself. This occurs near rolling elements and their contacts with raceways or near cage (retainer) pockets due to the high rotational speeds of the rollers resulting in fluid mixing.

A local change in fluid temperature would effect the viscosity and thereby effects overall fluid friction experienced in the bearing.

This is also a phenomenon seen in gearboxes.

I am looking to model this local temperature rise in the fluid due to its own motion. I am wondering how to do this without implementing some external heat source.

I currently have a working VoF multiphase model which I use to model the oil-air mixture within the bearing chamber. I would appreciate any inputs or advice on how to implement the necessary thermal effects!

Thank you

Isn't this just viscous heating? The standard option you can activate if you enable energy model? Then set the viscosity as a function of the temperature in the fluid properties and you should get what you want.
