Dear All,

I am working in ANSYS Fluent with some gravity-based simulations. But as I switch on gravity, the results don't reflect any change when compared with simulations where gravity was not included. Related to this, I was confused that how is static pressure defined in Fluent. Can please anyone help me with this? I am also not clear why my static and total pressure contours are having the same value.

Thanks in advance!

This is a common question. I used to have a slide from ANSYS with a good description, maybe someone here has it. Note there are three pressures in Fluent: static, total and absolute.

static - this is the pressure we typically set in the solver. It is like a gage pressure in that it is measured off a given reference pressure. This is what the solver uses when computing the pressure.

total - this is a combination of the static and dynamic pressure (1/2*\rho*v²) terms.

absolute - this is static and the reference pressure which is set in the Reference Values panel.

If you want to visualize the hydrostatic pressure, I would recommend creating either a Named Expression or Custom Field Function. The solver does not need this hydrostatic pressure for the solution, so it does not automatically output it.
