Hi there, I am trying to generate an overset mesh of a finite cylinder in a body of fluid. I am not sure on how to create the named selections for the cylinder and while figuring that out, when I tried to create the overset interface in FLUENT, after initialisation, it says that there are orphan cells present. Please let me know if more information is needed, thank you!

I tried overset mesh just once; I'm no expert...
There are donor-receptor cells in the overlap region, where the cells are of similar size (essential). Fluent assigns the "orphan" flag to a cell generally if there are insufficient cells in the overlap region between two boundaries (the manual states at least 4 cells are needed between two wall boundaries of two different meshes), and a receptor can't find a valid donor. See Fluent User Manual (2022R1) section 6.6.4.2 You can check where the orphan cells are situated using contour plot, select overset and then type. I don't remember which scalar is assigned to orphan cells, but you can find it out in the documentation. Hope it helps! |
