Hello,
I am validating the simulation results of the wavy fins heat transfer. A single wavy channel is simulated with the fins in the middle of the domain. As the fin is in the middle two fluid domains are created on either side of the fins. In the simulation results that I am validating, they have used periodic interfaces for sidewalls. As two domains are created there are no interacting faces between the sidewalls, hence I couldn’t set up the periodic boundary condition. It showed the following error, “non-intersected faces found for the matching interface periodic-wall-side, please improve the alignment of interface zones". For better understanding, I am attaching a screenshot that shows the boundary conditions, I was able to give periodic boundary conditions at the outlet and the inlet of the channels. Previously I was using symmetric boundary conditions for the sidewalls, but the results were not consistent with their results as they have used periodic conditions. How can I apply periodic BC for the side walls in ANSYS Fluent? Last edited by Sathesj; November 24, 2021 at 19:12. |

I think, you have to include fin also in the calculation to avoid this issue.

Thank you for the response. I will try it. Hopefully it solves the problem.

I asked you to include the fins because you have mentioned heat transfer through fins. Without fins, you can't do heat transfer between two fluid domains.
To solve the match control issue, you have to make both domains as single body. In your case, it is not possible. It is split by fin. It is the limitation of Ansys meshing. I recommend to use face & edge mesh sizing feature to get the same mesh on both sides instead of match control. Then create translational periodic in fluent. Otherwise, you have to try with ICEM CFD or some other meshing software.
