Deciding time step size for thermal equilibrium model-pure conduction in porous media

I am trying to simulate porous media without any fluid flow. I am struggling to arrive at a time step value for the simulation. I am using second-order upwind scheme for energy equation and bounded second-order implicit formulation.
Any tips?
