I am using Ansys fluent academic version. When I open fluent solver from workbench, I receive following message in the console once all data has been read.
Access is denied. Error occurred while processing: C:\Users\WAQAS. A subdirectory or file MUNEER\.fluentconf already exists. Error occurred while processing: MUNEER\.fluentconf. I am able to do everything. Nothing seems to be denied apparently. I am also able to run simulation. Just wondering is there something else going on with this message? Is it affecting my simulation results? Any help shall be appreciated. |

fluentconf is a configuration file that stores your workingspace settings, like display arrangement, your font colors, etc. Other than not having the ability to store these settings, Fluent runs completely without the file. If you have never modified your Fluent then it'll run on defaults and you'll never notice any difference.

Thanks for your reply!
I actually do notice a difference unfortunately. In my "Current" Design Point (within Fluent) I define via File -> Preferences -> I/O Format that it shall be saved as Legacy Format. This setting is supposed to be stored in the fluentconfig file, which it can't (due to the above mentioned error). The problem is, that my user name has a space in it, which leads to this error. Do you know how this can be resolved? (Maybe by adding an Env. Variable?) |

I see from another thread that you had no luck deleting the configuration. Of course not, because deleting the configuration file makes it resort back to the defaults. The default behavior is to save in the new ansys common format, which you don't want.
The reason you are having the error is because the path to your current directory in Ansys is not the same as the path to the working directory. If you want to edit environmentaal variables then put quotes so that it correctly parses the space. Courtesy reminder to not make multiple threads about the same topic because now the solution is fragmented, which is the same reason the solution was not answered in this thread already. CFD online isn't ISO 9001 certified but let's not make it a mess. |

The solution which worked for me is that I changed my Windows User name to one without a blank space in it. This is very time consuming and a lot can go wrong (other programs might not start correctly anymore and you have to work yourself through the registry) but for me it is working. Here is the link for instructions on that regard if anyone should be interested in doing the same: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/...space-and-path
Thanks for the reminder about the multiple threads, I concur on that one and thanks for your help again! |

I concur that reformatting your entire PC and installing everything correctly is a potential solution.
