HalcyonToast is on a distinguished road
Hello,

I am simulating wind over a field in 3d from a real anemometer. The data has 5 inputs from 5 heights of the real sensors. I have created 5 zones with thickness corresponding to each sensors height. I have imported a transient table reading the N/E, S/W, and Z components of the wind for each of the 5 sensors.

Originally, I thought I could just use velocity inlets. The domain is square, actually slightly rectangular for the purpose of this simulation, and upon review, I discovered having two whole sides of the domain be a velocity input creates weird flows, especially near the corner where the two sides meet.

Basically, I want the incoming wind data to be uniform and not necessarily defined by the faces of the domain. This made me consider using the frame/mesh motion.

The first question would be if this is the correct way to handle this? If you were modelling a 3d space and needed the incoming fluid to be uniform (ie not defined by the geometry), would domain motion be the correct assumption?

If so, my next question would be whether to use mesh motion or frame motion. This is a new concept to me, so not entirely sure what the difference is.

So, basically, the overall question is, what is the best approach to simulate the effects of incoming wind over a domain.

If you all need any more detail, let me know. Thanks.
