Hello,

I would like to know how can I simulate a screen filter. I mean, do I have to make a surface without thickness with special characteristics or something like that?

Thank you for your help.

Filter for what? Particles? If yes, then it depends on the type of model used to model particles.

The filter is used to filter water for irrigation. It is a mesh filter

Let me rephrase the question.

What is being filtered out of water? In other words, it is not what is passing through, but what remains needs to be modeled. If those are particles, then you may use either DPM or Granular. Filter can be modeled in both models, but the approaches are different.

Thank you for your answer.

Maybe my question is a bit silly, but I don't know how to model the filter mesh. if I have to draw it as a surface or as a solid element.

I only have this information about the filter.
https://mundoriego.es/producto/filtr...dular-300-2nr/

Manual mesh filter 2 ”AZUD MODULAR 300 2NR

BSP connection
Maximum flow 30 m3 / h
Filtration degree 120 mesh, 130 microns.
Filtered surface 815 cm2
Maximum pressure 10 bar
Maximum temperature 60ºC
Dimensions 597x309x133mm
Weight 7 kg.

AZUD MODULAR 300 is the filtration range based on minimum maintenance and maximum filtration security.
It offers the professional a wide range of possibilities for the filtration of a wide range of flow rates and water qualities, based on optimization of performance and with the minimum frequency and intensity of maintenance tasks.

-Wide range of flow rates, for all kinds of water qualities.
-Multiple possibilities of combination, degrees of filtering, filtering surface ...
-Diversity in filter elements with maximum safety in filtration.
-Fully compatible. Component savings.
-Components of manual cleaning equipment.
-Easy installation, with auxiliary outlets to facilitate verification, cleaning or control operations.
-Versatility in connections. Quick and easy installation.
-Resistant to high pressures.
-Modular cartridges for easy removal and maintenance.
-Stainless steel clamp easy to handle due to the design of its closure and high resistance and durability.
-Auxiliary jacks, manometric jacks.
-3-mouth body designed for multiple installations.
-Ribbed structure specially designed to withstand the vibrations produced by water hammer.

Applications:
-For filtration of all types of water
-Allows to select the degree of filtration.
-Work in any position.
-Functional.
-Security filter.
-It works with any type of particle, regardless of its nature and size.

Materials:
-Housing and structure of the filter element in polyamide reinforced with fiberglass.
-Filtering element in AISI 316 stainless steel mesh.
-Closing system with stainless steel clamp.
-NBR sealing elements.

If the volume fraction of the particles collected due to filtering is more than 10%, then you have to either use Dense Phase DPM or Granular model for the particles. If the volume fraction is lesser than 10%, then use DPM.

Now, if DPM or DPDPM is used, then you can model filter as interior surface. Do note that the size of the mesh used in the filter will have no effect on the particles. Filtering has to be modeled via a UDF.

If you use granular model, then you should model filter as a cell zone (a body) and not as a surface. This can work without a UDF, depending upon the scenario.

Thank you for your reply. I am going to use porous jump condition. I think it is a granular model. Could you help me please with a example of the use of this?
