Mr.Freeze is on a distinguished road
Hello, everyone,

I have a problem and I'm hoping that someone here can help me with it. I want to use Moving Reference Frame to simulate the fluid flow and heat transfer between two gears within a gearbox. Unfortunately, I couldn't find anything about this in the tutorials by Ansys on Youtube or in the Users Guide by Fluent. Most things are too general and can't clarify my problem.

My main problem is the following: I don't know what has to be set in the Boundary Conditions and Cell Conditions to make the gears move and influence the fluid. So far I have activated the Frame Motion in the Cell Conditions, but left the rest on default. For the solid parts in the Cell Conditions I have also activated the Frame Motion. I have also done this with the affected Boundary Conditions. Unfortunately only the gears are turning but the fluid is completely unaffected.

Can anyone help me that the fluid is influenced by the rotation of the gears with the help of MRF. I use the MRF for a first overview. After that I want to create Momentum Source and later a Moving Deforming Mesh.

I already want to thank you for your efforts.

vinerm will become famous soon enough
If the gears are meshed (as in gear meshing not CFD meshing), then you cannot use either frame motion or mesh motion. The only option is to use dynamic mesh. Frame or mesh motion for rotation works only if you have a surface of revolution dividing stationary and rotating zones. In case of single gear or two unmeshed gears, it is possible, but two gears meshed with each other, the only possibility is with dynamic mesh.
