Hi,
I'm not an expert with CFD. I'm just a little confused between doing a grid independence test and grid adaptation. I basically need to carry out grid adaptation for validating my ANSYS model. So I just want to confirm if grid independence test and grid adaptation are basically the same, just different terms?

Grid independence test is where you run a bunch of different meshes and calculate the uncertainty in the results due to the grid.

What's grid adaptation? If you're referring to an adaptive mesh, which is a dynamic mesh that changes on the fly, that's a completely different thing.

So to clarify, can I carry out a grid independence test to show how my results do not depend so much on the mesh?

I read that grid adaptation is another term for grid refinement. Which I THINK sounds similar to a grid independence test? where you change or refine the mesh values

I don't like to say it that way but yeah. Sure.

Grid refinement is the process of changing the grid, whatever is the reason for doing so.

I never heard grid adaptation until now, so I can't say. I wouldn't call it this. Just call it mesh sensitivity / grid independence like every one else if that's what it is.
