Hi,
I wanted to measure the velocity in a line that slightly above the foil in 2D. How can i set that up in Ansys (version 2019 r3)? And how can i know the time required to travel from inlet to outlet? Timothy |

Go to "Graphics and Animatrion" --> Mesh --> "New Surface" --> "Line/Rake" to define your desired line.
Go to "Results" --> "Graphics" --> "Particle Tracks" |

Since airfoil has a curve, it would not be very easy to define the line. If you have equation of the airfoil, then you can use same equation to generate the points and import those in Fluent. Then plot velocity on these points. Other option is to use cell values, i.e., select the airfoil but export cell data. This would report velocities slightly above the airfoil as you need; points will automatically be half cell height away from the airfoil. Another option is to use wall shear stress. Since velocity at the wall is 0, velocity adjacent to the wall can be calculated; usually defined as shear velocity and determined using
As far as residence time is concerned, you can plot streamlines with Time as variable. Do note that there is a range of time and not one value since not each flow parcel will reach the outlet in same time.
