alieidi1st is on a distinguished road
Hello everybody

I am doing a numerical simulation in Fluent and I want to validate my results using experimental data from a paper. How should I fix the momentum thickness number same as the one in the paper. Since, momentum thickness is related to velocity profile, I do the simulation once then I calculate the momentum thickness(teta) and then the Reynolds number but It is very different with the Reynolds that I wanted and also in the paper they used some round numbers such as 5000 or 5200 but when I calculate the Reynolds which I've got from the fluent it is for example 5371. Is it a trial and error process? Should I manipulate the velocity or the viscosity to get the Reynolds I want? Should I neglect the differences and assume for example 5371 same as 5200? What should I exactly do?

vinerm will become famous soon enough
Momentum displacement is a function of Re and the conditions on the boundary. You have to look at the reference velocity and length scale used in the paper for the calculation of Re. And then it would become easier to control it. If required, you can setup a feedback loop using PID (has to be done via UDF or expressions, if you have latest Fluent) to match momentum thickness by varying Re.
