Dear

i have run simulation using Euler 2 phase flow , activated both granular and packed bed and specified the diameter for particles then fixed the velocities of the second phase to zero to ensure the bed remain packed and no particle leave the domain

based on fluent help in this case Fluet would use the Ergun equation to simulate the pressure drop.

my issue is i am getting diffrent results than ergun equation(calculated externaly in excel Sheet and alo checked from calculated sites on the net) for ex the Ergun equation predicted 6000 psi while fluent calculated pressure drop only 500 psi

i am just wondering if any one faced this issue before or may be my approuch is wrong

any help is much appreciated

Fluent does not use Ergun equation when Euler-Euler model is used; Ergun is not applicable. Ergun equation is used when domain is assumed as porous, which can certainly represent a packed bed. However, when multiphase model with granular phase and packed bed is used, formulation is quite involved.

On the other hand, pressure drop due to Ergun and the formulation used in Fluent should match. The reason for mismatch could be due to multiple reasons, such as the models activated in the secondary phase panel.

Dear vinerm
thank u so much for the promt reply
from what i understand from your reply is when packed bed activated in the secondary phase Fluent will use Ergun equation, and this is what i have learned from the Fluent help as well
now you mention that the differences may be caused by the settings of the secondary phase panal , do you have any idea what should be the proper setting to get similar results like Ergun equation?
regards

I apologize in case I mentioned that Ergun is used. What I meant was that Ergun was NOT used by Fluent. However, results should be closer to what Ergun predicts.

Hello baghfay, all,

Can you or someone in this blog share the Ergun equation as Excel file ? Need to calculate the pressure loss across a clean bed media filter using different media and media heights such as sand or sand + anthracite.
Thanks
