Unhappy Update Solution Failed error message

Fellow Fluent Users,

When I ran a Fluent case in Workbench, after several days it returned an error message "Update failed for the Solution component <case name>. Update Solution Failed."

There is plenty of harddrive space and this case has successfully ran on another computer. Do you think this is a hardware or a software (setup) issue? Both computers are running ANSYS/Fluent 17.1, Windows 10, different RAM size, different virtual memory size, similar Intel Core i7 processor.

A related observation is that sometimes when Fluent crashes it would give me an error saying "There is no active application."

In the console window it would say:
2: mpt_connect: error: connect failed: No error
MPI Application rank 1 exited before MPI_Finalize() with status 2
Error: There is no active application.
Error Object: (rp-var-value 'pdf/filename)
Error: No journal response to dialog box message:'There is no active application.'
. Internally, cancelled the dialog.
Error: There is no active application.
Error Object: (rp-var-value 'delta-time-sampled)

Does anyone recognize this error message? If you do please point me in the right direction so it doesn't happen again. Thanks.

The error message is a generic workbench error message that almost literally says, workbench tried to find an updated Fluent .dat file and couldn't. Does Fluent run at all? Can you run any other case? If not then it would hint at an environment issue. Or does Fluent crash after some time. In this case, you'll have to dig through the Fluent logs to find out why Fluent crashed.
