Hi,
apologies if this has been answered previously but I could not find a result on a search. I was wondering could someone explain how to calculate velocity curl in the STN frame in CFD post in fluent version 17.1 I'm modelling a turbine and when i make a contour of curl using the standard velocity curl under vortex core i get discontinuities between the stationary and rotating domain that I believe would be solved if it was the STN frame. has anyone a solution to this? Thanks |

Hi Ethan,
I also had these issues with a project if mine recently. My simulations were on a diffuser augmented wind turbine. No matter what i tried the vortices were irregular and discontinuous at the interface. Instead of the rotating domain only encasing the blades, i made the rotating domain larger and extended it in to the wake of the turbine (around 2 diameters). Doing this didn't change the other properties such as torque produced by the turbine ect, but i was able to visualise the vortices in the wake of the turbine properly. Just make sure you set any surfaces that aren't rotating but are in the rotating domain to counter rotating walls. |
