Dear all,

I cannot find the TUI command for turning on the Vortex Method for the inlet boundary condition and setting the number for an LES simulation. Can it be done? Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Hi,
It's available in
/define/boundary-conditions/set/ <choose your boundary condition here>/ les-spec-name/ no yes
After this in .../les-spec-name/vm-number-of-vortices

Hi,

I was pre-suposing that the k-w SAS model would have the same TUI commands available as LES as the Vortex Method appears in the GUI but it doesn't seem to recognise les-spec-name. Any thoughts? Sorry I should have been more specific

Hi,
Are you using a mass flow inlet boundary condition? The fluctuation method can only be defined for velocity inlet or pressure inlet boundaries.
I am able to find the les-spec-name command, with the k-w SAS model, for velocity and pressure inlets

Strange. I'm using a velocity inlet and also the kW sst sas model. Could you paste the exact commands you wrote please?

My mistake, there is some part missing in the commands I mentioned earlier. Here is the exact line of commands that works for me:
define boundary-conditions set velocity-inlet inlet () les-spec-name no yes vm-number-of-vertices 200 quit

in the above command "inlet" is the name of my velocity-inlet boundary condition, and 200 is an arbitrary number of vortices.

Maybe it's a version thing. I'm using 17.1 and les-spec-name isn't there but Les-spec is only IF I turn on LES. Then I get Les-spec and have to say "no" to Fluctuating Velocity Algorithm: No Perturbations [no] otherwise I don't get to choose Vortex Method. I change back to SAS and seems to be ok. Hmmm. This is so strange!

Looks like to input the number of perturbations is then through:

/define/boundary-conditions> v
(inlet)
zone id/name [inlet]
Velocity Specification Method: Magnitude and Direction [no]
Velocity Specification Method: Components [yes]
Reference Frame: Absolute [yes]
Use Profile for Supersonic/Initial Gauge Pressure? [no]
Supersonic/Initial Gauge Pressure (pascal) [0]
Coordinate System: Cartesian (X, Y, Z) [yes]
Use Profile for X-Velocity? [yes]
Use UDF Profile for X-Velocity? [yes]
Use Profile for Y-Velocity? [yes]
Use UDF Profile for Y-Velocity? [yes]
Use Profile for Z-Velocity? [yes]
Use UDF Profile for Z-Velocity? [yes]
Fluctuating Velocity Algorithm: No Perturbations [no]
Fluctuating Velocity Algorithm: Vortex Method [yes]
Number of Vortices [190]

Is there any reason perturbations don't show up in inlet using this method?
