Hi all, I am currently doing a project on designing a silencer for a high Mach flow jet and I am looking for a CFD software to do simulations so that I can do analysis-based designs.

Since I am still a newbie in CFD, I don't quite know if FLUENT has the capability or should I invest my time on other CFD softwares? I read that FLUENT cannot do simulations of acoustic finite elements with mean flow. Ideally I would want to simulate the sound propagation of a nozzle with and without my silencer. I came across something called G3D codes which sound perfect for my purpose but I have no idea what that is. It doesn't seem to be a software, but more like some codes to be run on some platform. It also seems to require expensive computation and I only got a relatively powerful laptop. Otherwise, I can just simulate the high Mach flow pass the nozzle and look into the shear layers. Is FLUENT capable to do that?

hi, you would be able to analyse all sorts of shear layers with fluent.. it's quite powerful and has models adequate for many situations

have you checked the manual for what fluent can do in terms of acoustics?
