Hi there,
I have just joined this site, and need some help and advice with a problem I am having using fluent. I am trying to model the effects of tidal turbine array, but have only had experience using fluent over the last few months so it is all still fairly new to me. I have done a lot of research and I am trying to implement the actuator disk model as my approach, but I am not too sure of the boundary conditions i need to use. I have read that you can model it using the porous jump condition, however when I try to use this it only lets me apply it to the main body of fluid. I have also seen people implement the fan bc for similar type problems based on wind turbines. As the fan bc also lets you create a pressure jump across this region, I need some clarity on how these boundary conditions best work My geometry is fairly simple as it consists of a thin cylinder within a rectangular body of fluid. I have used boolean operations to remove the cylinder and I am currently using the fan bc, however my results dont seem right as it appears that the flow is being sucked in through the fan and then pushed out and sucked back in again when I examine the streamlines However I do not think I have the right type of mesh for my problem. If anyone has tried modelling this before some advice would be greatly appreciated, I am using fluent, as that is what I am most comfortable with. Last edited by nelly_25; March 18, 2016 at 22:11. Dear Nelly, im working in the same problem. The resulting streamlines does not have any rotary movement. Was you able to solve your problem?
