Hello!
This will be my first post on the forum and certainly not my last. I'm pretty new to ANSYS FLUENT and am looking for some help in setting up a simulation of a basic NACA 0012 airfoil at subsonic speeds (~150m/s). I'm trying to asses the wake turbulence of the airfoil with and without winglets, as well as any changes in drag and lift. From what I've found, a form of a DES would be good for this rather general overview of the wing's characteristics, but I'm still unsure. Any input, as well as scientific or cited justification, would be extremely helpful. I have a rather powerful setup (32 thread @ ~4GHz) and am willing to conduct <12hr simulations.
Thanks!

If you want to study your wing at an angle of attack that causes flow separation, then RANS might be a poor choice since it cannot predict massively separated flows very well. DES, however, has had success predicting separated flows and would be a good alternative. If you are looking for reading material on DES, I would recommend the document "Best Practice: Scale Resolving Simulations in Ansys CFD" and "Young-persons Guide to Detached Eddy Simulation Grids".

If you are somewhat new to Fluent, make sure you can obtain iterative convergence and grid convergence with RANS before moving to DES. Best of luck with your simulations.
