I am trying to model air flow within a dome structure (elliptical base with dome on top). The air enters the dome from an opening at the base of the structure and exits through an outlet in the same base. (Refer diagram). How to determine Reynold's number for such cases and deter whether to model laminar or turbulent flow?

Any idea on the pressure drop?
From pressure drop you can get average shear stress and friction velocity. |

Physical properties of air are known (I suppose), you have just to evaluate a reference speed and a reference length.
Is it a big dome dominated by buoyancy? Can you assume the wall as a flat plate? You have to better describe the problem and to highlight the main features. |

The physical properties of air are known. The dome is not very big. I have not landed on the exact dimensions of the dome yet but it would fit within a cube of 1m (max). The air flow is forced from underneath the structure using a fan.
