Hi all,

I wanted to become familiar with dynamic meshing so I set up a basic 2D problem of an engine-like chamber geometry with a moving wall (i.e. piston). In fluent, I used the piston_full profile for the motion of the wall. After setting up all parameters according to the in_cylinder tutorial (describes cold flow in engine cylinder), I ended up with a pretty bad result..

I have attached pictures of my basic geometry initially and after meshing. What I get is basically long stripes for elements, starting from the datum position (i.e. TDC) and going all the way down to the end position (i.e. BDC). Its like the meshing "columns" are there but the "rows" are missing completely.. I tried various combinations for dynamic meshing methods (smoothing, layering, remeshing) but the result is always the same.

Any suggestions? In case anyone wants to have a look at my settings, I have attached my fluent case along with the tutorial (pdf) followed to set up the dynamic mesh.

Thanks a lot,
Harry

Harman79, yours is an old post but how did you resolve your problem? I am having a similar problem with long stripes when the boundary moves in a 2D problem.
